VP JD Vance Defends President’s Russia Talks Amid Ukraine War

United States: During an interview on Thursday JD Vance the U.S. Vice President backed Donald Trump’s ongoing talks with Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine war because dialogue serves as a necessary step towards peace. Vance made his remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference during his speech where he stated “How are you going to end the war unless you’re talking to Russia?”

U.S.-Russia Talks Criticized for Excluding Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio led American delegates in Riyadh for a dialogue with Russian representatives as they worked to find solutions for the Ukraine crisis during this initial meeting. The exclusion of Ukraine officials from these talks drew negative remarks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Since the original talks tensions have grown worse after Trump and Zelenskiy launched scathing criticisms against each other. During their public dispute Trump accused Zelenskiy of being a dictator and made baseless statements about Ukraine starting the Russian invasion which triggered Zelenskiy to claim Trump was spreading Russian propaganda.

Hope for Peace in Europe

Despite the controversy, Vance expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating at the Conservative Political Action Conference, “I really believe we’re on the cusp of peace in Europe for the first time in three years.” He praised Trump as an “effective negotiator” who keeps all bargaining options open to maximize strategic leverage.

Controversy Over Munich Remarks

Vance recently participated in the Munich Security Conference, where his criticism of Europe’s migrant policies and accusations of silencing dissent sparked backlash from European leaders. An audience at CPAC enthusiastically cheered his points from Munich even though they seemed critical of the United States.

Strengthening U.S.-Europe Relations

Strong U.S.-Europe alliances require societies to have harmonized values according to Vance. He echoed Trump’s stance that NATO countries should contribute more to shared defense costs, advocating for fairer financial commitments. “I really do think the strength of those alliances is going to depend on whether we take our societies in the right direction,” Vance stated.

Defending Economic Policy Amid Criticism

Addressing criticism from Democrats over the administration’s approach to inflation, Vance defended Trump’s progress, noting that he has been in office for only a month. “There’s a lot more that we can do, but I think we’ve got a pretty good start,” he said, urging patience as economic measures are implemented.
