United States – President Joe Biden had said on Friday that Polish people had complained about the influence of U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, who has called for Israel to hold elections anew and designated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as hindrance on the part of the peace process.
Biden Voices Agreement
“He made a good speech,” said Biden, as he was talking with reporters in the White House’s Oval Office. This question is about what Schumer spoke on the Senate floor about a day before, where the word ‘good speech’ refers to his speech, as reported by Reuters.
“He expressed a serious concern, shared not only by him but by many Americans,” Biden said, further adding that Schumer informed him of this before his speech that he and his staff were to attend.
Schumer, a supporter of Israel as longtime and highest-elected Jewish US official, told the Senate on Thursday, that no more to the needs of Israel is the government of Netanyahu five months of the war starting on 7 October by the attack of Hamas militants.
The speech signaled the dissatisfaction in Washington with Netanyahu and the way he runs the war, the failure to do more to protect Palestinian lives, and expected blockade of aid deliveries through Gazaport. The voice of the international critics of the US support of Israel continues to mount owing to the rising dead toll and the starvation crisis in the coastal enclave.
Schumer held Hamas to account along with Palestinians who support it in addition to Abbas who should also resign.
Growing International Criticism
Senator Schumer said that it would almost be a “catastrophe” for Israel to reject the two-state issue and called for the negotiators in the Israel-Gaza fight to do everything possible to achieve a ceasefire, free the hostages and send the aid to Gaza.
Schumer suggested that momentum could be in the direction of a Congress that could demand changes from Israel if it does not change its way. Still, he did not go as far as suggesting the step that some Democrats advocate: proposing a bill that will make funding of defense equipment as a core pre-condition of providing Israel with weapons, as reported by Reuters.
