Unthinkable Tragedy: UnitedHealthcare CEO Dies in Manhattan Shooting

United States: Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was sadly shot and killed outside a hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday morning. He was supposed to speak at a meeting for investors.

Police said the shooting has already hereby happened at around 6:45 a.m. outside the Hilton hotel, and the shooter ran away afterward like a rat. The victim’s name was not officially released, but he was 50 years old.

 The victim was quickly taken to the next available health facility, but unfortunately, he/she couldn’t survive.

UnitedHealthcare is a division of the health care organization and here also UnitedHealth Group Inc and is also an insurance company. Minnetonka, Minnesota based company was expected to present annual meeting with investors in New York City to provide Wall Street with the direction of the company and its expectations for the year, a media advisory stated.

Those in attendance were informed through an announcement on Wednesday morning that the conference was ending early.

As reported by the Newsday.com, the Hilton is actually located in a dense neighborhood of Manhattan – it takes less than five minutes to get to the Museum of Modern Art and the Rockefeller Center and during my stay –  and also during weekdays in the morning, crowds of tourists and businessmen filled the area. One of the most like literally very  popular events of the Christmas season, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting is expected to occur Wednesday.

Some part of the block which the shooting occurred was, therefore, enclosed with police barriers accompanied by several policemen. Most of the security cameras are around.

Thompson had been the company’s CEO for over three years and had worked for the Firm from 2004.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz used his Twitter account to convey that the state is ‘’praying for Brian’s family and the UnitedHealthcare team.’’

Minnesota Democrat wrote: ‘This is horrifying news and a terrible loss for the business and health care community in Minnesota.’

UnitedHealthcare delivers Medicare’s Medicare Advantage plans and offers health insurance for employers and state-and federally funded Medicaid programs.
