United States – The New York Times news drop on Tuesday revealed a weekend gathering in Florida between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, one of the world’s richest men, who was pitching his support for Trump’s recent finances amid reelection campaigning.
Republican Lobbyists Share Insights
The Times disclosed that the Republican lobbyists cited three people they had talked to conditionally on Sunday but on condition of anonymity.
Times reported that Trump met with Musk and a few rich Republican donors on Sunday. He wants to have one-on-one talks with Musk, the ones who are beyond only business. He is the founder and CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O) as well the space exploration company SpaceX, and who runs X, the formerly known social networking platform Twitter.)
Neither Twitter’s CEO nor Trump’s campaign replied to Reuters’ requests to comment on the situation.
Trump, whose fortune has also seen taking off hits by a civil fraud case judgment against him and another defamation trial, is looking for new major donors to his campaign for the president’s seat, according to the Times.
Musk’s Political Stance
Musk has not announced whether he will fund the White House campaign at the moment. However, Elon Musk, a South African billionaire entrepreneur, has taken to his social media accounts professing his opposition to President Joe Biden, a Democrat who won reelection against Trump in 2020, running for a second term in November.
Elon Musk’s estimated net worth of about USD200 billion, according to Forbes, almost represents a single-hand donation that can offset Biden and his sympathizers’ struggles in raising funds for the general election of 2024.
Over the years, Musk has made attempts to paint himself as politically independent. In the words of the NYT, he hasn’t sunk much political capital into the presidential races in the past, and he’s been donating to both Democrats and Republicans in almost equal proportions.
