United States – US federal officials who are in charge of security during the Republican Party’s convention scheduled to commence in Milwaukee this week have already ruled out any adjustments to their security measures, contrary to expectations following an assassination attempt on presumptive presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday that has raised concern of more acts of violence, as reported by Reuters.

“We are ready to go, and we are confident in the security plans for this event,” the Cable’s source mentioned at the televised briefing to the reporters accompanied by Audrey Gibson-Cicchino, the coordinator of the U.S. Secret Service for the convention. “I do not see there being any security shifts that need to occur.”

No Identified Threats to the Convention

It is evident in the remarks that the officials want to alleviate concerns about security in the convention, where Secret Service and Police officials say that there are no identified articulated threats to the Republican National Convention.

Donald Trump, 78, received slight injuries but is fine; he will receive the official GOP nomination for the president at the fourth convention, which will attract more than 50,000 attendees. It was at Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening; he had not spoken more than a few minutes when a bullet grazed his right ear, splattering blood on his face.

“We feel very comfortable that we’re working with the Secret Service,” Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley said in an interview on Fox earlier on Sunday. “We’re working with 40 different law enforcement agencies in terms of what that security is going to look like,” he added.

Fatalities and Injuries at the Rally

A 50-year-old volunteer firefighter died guarding his family in order to spare them the brutality of the shots. Two other people at the rally were critically injured. Law enforcement agents shot dead the gunman, who was a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, away from the venue of the rally but within an hour’s drive.

Whatley thus exhorted the Republicans to seize this opportunity to rise above the partisan consideration and come together.

“There is no place in politics in any way, shape, or form for this kind of violence, for these types of actions. It’s a horrific act,” Whatley said. “Everybody in America needs to stop. They need to pause, they need to reflect on what is actually important for us in this political process going forward.”

Calls for Unity and Non-Violence

Delaware Senator Chris Coons, an ally of Trump’s rival Joe Biden, said the violence against Trump should encourage both sides to reinforce security, with the Democrats scheduled to be holding their convention in Chicago in August, as reported by Reuters.

“We need to be more concerned and more diligent than ever in ensuring that our two conventions and the rest of this presidential campaign comes off safely and securely,” he told NBC.

The Republican convention is scheduled to be held at the venue where the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team of NBA plays.
